Carbon Monoxide Warning
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a by-product of burning. All gas, oil and wood burning heating systems produce some CO. Normally, the gas is vented through a chimney or direct vent to the outside. In some cases, a blocked heater vent can cause CO to build-up in the air indoors.
Carbon monoxide~ can not be seen, or smelled. CO can only be detected by use of specialized CO detectors or air sampling meters. In very small quantities it can cause flu-like symptoms. If left untreated, levels of CO build up in the body resulting in serious injury or death.
Ways to prevent CO poisoning include:
· Have your heating system serviced regularly~ by a licensed technician.
· Make sure your chimney or heater vent is in good condition and free of snow.
· Keep your car properly tuned.
· Never leave your car running in an enclosed garage.
· If you get stuck in your car, keep the exhaust pipe clear.
· Never Ever run an unvented gas or kerosene heater indoors.
