How do I apply for a Motor Vehicle Abatement?

You are entitled to a Motor Vehicle Abatement if you no longer own your vehicle and you have either transferred your registration to another vehicle or canceled your registration.  You may download an Abatement Application found on the Assessors webpage on the left sidebar links, or come into our office and pick one up.

We can only abate if we receive all required documentation proving BOTH:   1. Transfer of ownership, & 2. Canceled or Transfer of the Registration.  The Abatement is pro-rated based on the original excise tax bill and does not include late fees or demands from the deputy collector. If you have any questions you may call the Assessors office and we can assist you.  You can find a copy of the Abatement Application on our website sidebar link "Motor Vehicle Abatement Application".
