Community Preservation

In 2008, our town became the 133rd town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to adopt the Community Preservation Act. Our community decided on a 1.5% surcharge, annually, on real estate tax bills. Funds collected can be matched by CPA funds up to 100% from the state and are used exclusively for preservation projects relating to Conservation/Open Space, Housing, Recreation and Historical projects.

Please direct any questions regarding this new program to the Community Preservation Committee at cpchanson@gmail.com or (781) 293-5644 extension 102.

All property has an exemption for the first $100,000 of value. Other exemptions are available. To qualify, a taxpayer who is a Senior Citizen (age 60 and over) is exempt from the CPA if they meet moderate income limits. All others must meet low income limits to qualify for exemption. Call the Assessor's Office for detailed information at (781) 293-5259.
