Hanson Fire receives firefighter safety equipment grant

The Town of Hanson Fire Department is pleased to announce that it is one of over 300 fire departments across the state to have been awarded a grant as part of the Department of Fire Services Fiscal Year 2022 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.

The $19,000 grant awarded to the Hanson Fire Department will be used to purchase protective clothing for our members. The funds allocated from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services will assist the department to obtain needed protective clothing all the while taking some financial burden off the Town.

Fire departments in every city, town, fire district, eligible state authority, and state military fire departments of the Commonwealth were eligible to apply for funding from the FY22 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant. $5 million of funding was available for equipment that will improve the safety of firefighters.

This program enables fire departments to purchase a variety of equipment that will make firefighters’ jobs safer. This is the second year that funding has been awarded for this purpose as part of a $25 million bond bill filed by the Baker-Polito Administration to support firefighter safety and health in the coming years.

The grant was prepared and submitted by Deputy Chief Robert O’Brien.
