Town of Hanson to distribute at-home COVID tests on Saturday, February 12, 2022

The Town of Hanson will distribute free, at-home COVID-19 test kits to Hanson residents on Saturday, February 12 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Tests will be available at Maquan Elementary School, 38 School Street.  Residents should enter from Indian Head Street.

Supplies will be limited and on a first come basis. All Hanson residents are eligible to receive one test kit, which contain two tests each. Proof of Hanson residency in the form of a government issued ID will be required to obtain tests.

Hanson’s COVID-19 numbers have shown signs of improvement over recent weeks but the availability of testing will remain critical in containing the transmission of the virus.  At-home tests are a useful tool for individuals to quickly detect if they are at high-risk for spreading the virus.

The at-home tests are self-administered, can be used anywhere, and produce results in approximately 15 minutes. Using an at-home test can provide indication as to if an individual is infected with COVID-19 and likely to spread the virus, and can be particularly useful prior to attending an indoor gathering. The tests can also be used if you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, though they are not as effective as PCR tests in detecting positive cases. According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, a negative self-test result means that the test did not detect the virus and you may not have a COVID-19 infection, but it does not guarantee you do not have COVID-19.
